Staying in shape takes a lot of will power and effort. From time to time, you need to learn new ways to improve your fitness routine and boost your morale to work out. This article is for those who need a little pep talk about the basics of being fit and in shape.
If you are looking to get fit, make a regiment that is both reasonable and productive. For example, expect yourself to go to the gym four days a week, and burn 500 calories each time. In this way you do not over burden yourself, and at the same time, keep on track towards a long term goal.
Run at least four times per week. A consistent running routine increases endurance because your muscles train themselves to perform repetitive motions more efficiently. Running every other day is adequate to build this muscle memory. A run can be of any length, and beginners should start with runs no longer than 10-15 minutes.
One of the most common and preventable causes of muscle strain and injury during workouts, is exercising while wearing old, worn-out shoes that are no longer able to cushion and support the foot. Think of your workout shoes as any other perishable item and assign an “expiration date”. For even the highest quality shoes, five hundred miles is the typical lifespan.
To ride a bike more efficiently, try practicing one-legged cycling. This will cause you to focus on pulling up more at the bottom of your stroke to cause more of your major leg muscles to have to work harder. Lock both feet into the pedals, but keep the one leg limp and cycle with the other for about 30 seconds. Then repeat with the other leg.
You can improve your grip using a towel to grab onto the bar when you work out your arms. This causes the bar to become thicker and the tightness of your grip to increase. That increase cause your forearm muscles to have to work much harder at holding onto the bar.
Don’t just focus on your ab muscles when working out, make sure to add lower back sets to each set of ab exercises you do too. If you just focus only on your abs in your routine, you could be developing poor posture or you could start experiencing lower back pain.
A great way to keep your kids active is to take them on hikes. Find a state park near you and take them on a hike through the woods. You can make a miniature adventure out of it and have fun along the way. Your kids probably won’t even realize they’re exercising!
Never use a weight belt. While many trainers will tell you that they are great for everything, weight belts actually weaken your abdominal and lower back muscles. They put heavy pressure on muscles you are not working, causing your muscles to pull from areas they normally wouldn’t, namely your abs and back.
Play a game or two. Video games, and tabletop games like foosball, table hockey, and ping pong, have all shown to be excellent ways to improve your hand-eye coordination. If you play a sport of any kind, you will need to improve on this, so pick up your game remote or a paddle!
Being proactive in your effort to staying fit is the key to success in maintaining wellness. Try to change up your routine, so you don’t get burned out but don’t skip too many days of not working out. If you skip more than a day, the chances are harder for you to get back into the grove of working out.
